Tomorrow is the last day to join for this month's Weight Loss Challenge!
We have 9 people interested so far which makes the pot pretty awesome.
A few points of discussion:
1. Some people are hesitant about loosing the money. Here's the thing imo (ymmv of course). A friend of mine who did this lost the pool for two months and then won the third. She lost 20 pounds over the course of 3 months, which is a healthy amount of weight. I personally haven't been at a -20 pound weight since I went to Mardi Gras. Which was before Hurricane Katrina.
I don't have a lot of money either, but hell yeah I would pay $30 over the course of 3 months to loose 20 pounds. Even if I kept loosing, I'm still winning because I'm, well, loosing. I would *definately* pay $60 - $80 over the course of six to eight months to loose 40 pounds because you know what? That's my goal weight. And that's assuming I never ever beat everyone else's punk asses.
I can only speak for myself, but I am a social creature. The times in my life that I've been able to loose significant amounts of weight were when it was a team effort. I do (i.e. pay for) weight watchers. I at one point joined (and paid for) a gym. I got married. None of those things were a big enough kick in my ass. I always thought that getting married would be, but I had a lot of people die that year which was demotivating to say the least. I want to do this, I need to do this. I am also competative by nature and I think this will help me get motivated.
2. We are not a hard core dieting people. If we were, we wouldn't need this, we could just do it on our own. If I loose five pounds the first *month*, I will be pleasantly surprised. I try to follow weight watchers and I do old lady exercises because that's all I can manage - yoga, slow walking, swimming, etc. Don't feel like you're going to definately loose because you don't have some kind of hardcore regime. We're all learning together. Besides the fat sack o' loot, the email list will also work as a support structure.
